What is the Random Password Generator?

RandNow uses crypto.getRandomValues(), the browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, and guarantees at least one character from every set you enable. Passwords never leave your device — there is no server request involved. The strength label estimates entropy in bits: anything above 72 bits is considered strong against offline attacks.

Randomness is what makes a password strong. People are predictable — we capitalise the first letter, add a number at the end and swap “a” for “@” — and cracking tools try exactly those patterns first. A generated password has no such shortcuts, so an attacker has to search the whole space. The other half of security is uniqueness: if one site is breached, a reused password opens every other account. Pair random passwords with a password manager and turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.

How to use the Random Password Generator

  1. Adjust the options above to match what you need.
  2. Press Generate (or hit Enter / Space) to create fresh results instantly.
  3. Click any result to copy it, or use Copy all.
  4. Download everything as CSV, JSON or TXT, or share a link with your settings.

Popular uses

  • New accounts — unique passwords for every website.
  • Wi-Fi keys & API secrets — long random strings in one click.
  • Password-manager vaults — rotate weak or reused passwords.

Why use RandNow?

  • Instant & unlimited — no sign-up, no daily caps.
  • Private by design — results are generated in your browser, not on our servers.
  • Export-ready — copy, CSV, JSON and TXT downloads built in.
  • Cryptographically random — powered by the Web Crypto API.

How long should a password be?

For everyday accounts, 14–16 random characters with mixed sets is plenty. For master passwords and encryption keys, use 20 or more. Length matters more than complexity: each extra character multiplies the number of possible combinations.

Passphrases and password managers

For the few passwords you must remember — your password manager’s master password or your computer login — a passphrase of five or more randomly chosen words can be easier to type and still strong. For everything else, let a password manager store long random passwords created here, so you never need to remember them. Change a password promptly if a service reports a breach, and never share passwords by email or chat. Press Generate to create a strong, unique password now.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to generate passwords online?

Yes, here. Passwords are created entirely in your browser and never transmitted or stored. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

What does “exclude look-alikes” do?

It removes characters that are easy to confuse — O and 0, l, I and 1 — which helps when a password must be read or typed manually.

How is strength calculated?

Entropy = length × log₂(alphabet size). Below 50 bits is weak, 72+ strong and 100+ very strong.

Should I change my passwords regularly?

Current guidance, such as NIST SP 800-63B, advises against forced periodic changes. Use long, unique passwords and change one when there is any sign it was exposed.

Do I still need two-factor authentication?

Yes. Even a perfect password can be phished or leaked in a breach. A second factor blocks most account takeovers that a password alone cannot.
