What is the Random Verb Generator?

The Random Verb Generator serves up English action words, each labeled with its part of speech, such as “sketch (verb)” or “organize (verb)”. Verbs are the engine of any sentence, which makes them perfect for acting games, language lessons and creative exercises.

The Word type option starts on Verbs, and you can switch to Nouns, Adjectives, Adverbs or Any for a broader mix. How many? returns between 1 and 100 words per click, and the Case menu formats them as lowercase, Title Case or UPPERCASE so they are ready for flashcards, slides or code.

Verbs are given in their base form — the way they appear in a dictionary — which makes them easy to practice tenses with: take “write” and turn it into wrote, written and writing. Every word is selected in your browser with the Web Crypto API, nothing is stored, and you can copy the list or export it as CSV, JSON or TXT.

How to use the Random Verb Generator

  1. Leave Word type on Verbs.
  2. Enter How many? from 1 to 100.
  3. Pick a Case for the output.
  4. Press Generate, then copy or export the verbs.

Practicing tenses with random verbs

Generate ten verbs and fill in four columns: base form, past simple, past participle and -ing form. Regular verbs simply add -ed (organize, organized), while irregular ones change shape (write, wrote, written) — those are the ones worth extra practice. For speaking practice, ask learners to describe their day using every verb on the list.

Writers can try “one verb per paragraph” challenges to keep scenes moving, or replace weak verbs in a draft with stronger random picks. Press Generate again for a fresh set — it’s free and unlimited.
