What is the Random Number Generator?

Our RNG uses 53 bits of cryptographic randomness per draw, giving a perfectly uniform distribution with no modulo bias. Turn on “No duplicates” for lottery-style draws, or allow repeats to simulate independent events like dice. For batches you’ll also see the sum and average.

Uniform randomness means every value in your range is equally likely, but it doesn’t mean the results look evenly spread. Short runs often contain repeats, clusters and streaks — that is normal, not a sign of bias. With “No duplicates” off, the chance that at least two of 23 draws from 1–365 match is already above 50%, the famous birthday paradox. With it on, the tool behaves like drawing numbered balls from a bag without putting them back, which is how lotteries and raffles work.

Running a fair giveaway

Number your entries in a spreadsheet, set the minimum to 1 and the maximum to the number of entries, and keep “No duplicates” on if you need several winners. Draw on screen or record the draw so participants can see the process, and decide in advance what happens if a winner doesn’t respond — for example, draw a few reserve numbers at the same time. Publish the rules before the draw starts, including the closing date and how winners will be contacted, so everyone knows the process is fair.

Odds in plain numbers

Picking 6 unique numbers from 1–49 gives 13,983,816 possible combinations, so any single ticket has roughly a 1 in 14 million chance of matching all six. No number is ever “due”: each draw is independent of the last. Teachers can use large batches to show how the average settles near the middle of the range as the sample grows. Press Generate to make your next draw.

Frequently asked questions

Is this truly random?

It uses the browser’s cryptographically secure generator (crypto.getRandomValues), which is suitable for security purposes and far better than Math.random().

Can I pick numbers without repeats?

Yes, keep “No duplicates” switched on. If you ask for more numbers than the range contains, you get every number once.

Can I use negative numbers?

Yes, minimum and maximum can be any whole numbers, including negatives.

How do I pick a winner for a giveaway?

Number the entries, set the range from 1 to the total, and generate one number per prize with “No duplicates” on. Share a screenshot or recording to keep the draw transparent.

Are some numbers luckier than others?

No. Every number in the range has exactly the same chance on every draw, and past results don’t influence future ones.
