About this tool
The Magic 8 Ball is a fortune-telling toy that has been answering questions with a shake since the mid-20th century. This online version keeps the spirit of the original: think of a question that can be answered with yes or no, optionally type it into “Your question”, and press Generate. The ball replies with a short answer such as “Yes.”, “Outlook not so good.” or “Reply hazy, try again.”
Answers fall into three moods — positive, non-committal and negative — and the result is color-coded so you can see at a glance which kind you got. If you typed a question, it is shown with the answer, which makes for a fun screenshot to share with friends.
Each answer is drawn at random using the Web Crypto API, so the ball has no memory and no opinion; it is pure chance. That makes it perfect for party games, light-hearted decisions and breaking a tie, but please don’t use it for anything important. Your question never leaves your browser and nothing is saved.

How to ask the Magic 8 Ball
The ball only understands yes-or-no questions. “Will it rain tomorrow?” works; “What should I eat?” does not. Keep the question short and specific, ask it once, and accept the answer — repeatedly shaking until you get a “yes” is half the fun but tells you nothing new.
Remember that the answers are random and meant for entertainment. For real decisions about health, money or relationships, talk to someone you trust. For everything else, ask away, press Generate again and shake the ball — it’s free and unlimited.
