What is the Random Domain Name Generator?

Naming a project is hard, and finding a domain that matches is harder. This generator combines short, evocative words into brandable names such as velvetscale.net, harborpath or coder-forge, sometimes joined with a hyphen, and attaches a domain extension. It is a quick way to spark ideas for a startup, side project, blog or product launch.

Use the Extension menu to lock the results to a single top-level domain — .com, .io, .ai, .dev, .app, .co, .net or .org — or leave it on “Any” for a broader mix that can also include extensions such as .site, .blog, .online and .me. You can create up to 100 names in one batch and export them as a list to share with your team.

Developers also use the output as realistic test data for URL fields, email domains and DNS-related forms. Keep in mind that the generator does not check registration status: a name may already be taken, so look it up with a registrar before you fall in love with it.

What makes a good domain name?

Short, easy to spell and easy to say out loud. Avoid numbers and multiple hyphens that people forget when they hear the name, and check that the name isn’t too close to an existing brand or trademark. Saying it over the phone is a good test: if you need to spell it out, keep looking.

Choosing an extension

.com remains the most familiar, while .io, .dev and .app are popular with tech projects and .org suits nonprofits and communities. Use the generated list as inspiration and adapt names until one clicks. Press Generate again for a fresh set — it’s free and unlimited.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated domain names available to register?

Not necessarily. The tool does not check registration status, so look up any name you like with a domain registrar.

Can I choose only .com domains?

Yes. Set Extension to “.com”. You can also choose .io, .ai, .dev, .app, .co, .net or .org, or “Any” for a mix.

How many domain names can I generate?

Up to 100 per batch, and you can generate new batches as often as you want.

Can I use these domains as test data?

Yes, but a generated name may belong to a real website. For documentation and examples, reserved domains such as example.com are the safest choice.
