What is the Random VIN Generator?

A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is the 17-character code that uniquely identifies a car, truck or motorcycle. This generator creates random VINs in the standard format, using only the allowed characters — the letters I, O and Q are never used because they are too easy to confuse with 1 and 0.

Each VIN begins with a real World Manufacturer Identifier, the first three characters that indicate the maker, and the result is labeled accordingly — for example Hyundai, Renault, Volvo, Honda (USA) or Ford (USA). The ninth character is a check digit calculated with the standard method: each character is converted to a number, multiplied by a position weight, summed and divided by 11, with a remainder of 10 written as X. That means the VINs pass the same check digit validation used in North American systems.

You can generate up to 100 VINs per click and export them as CSV, JSON or TXT. The remaining characters are random, so these VINs describe no actual vehicle.

How to use the Random VIN Generator

  1. Enter the number of VINs you need in How many? (1–100).
  2. Press Generate to create the list.
  3. Check the manufacturer label next to each VIN.
  4. Copy the results or export them as CSV, JSON or TXT.

Popular uses

  • Automotive developers — test VIN decoders, lookups and input validation.
  • Dealer & fleet software teams — populate demo inventories with realistic data.
  • Insurance QA testers — fill quote and claim forms without real vehicle data.
  • Game and film designers — add believable VINs to props and in-game paperwork.

What the parts of a VIN mean

Characters 1–3 are the World Manufacturer Identifier, which shows the maker and region. Characters 4–8 describe the vehicle, such as model and body type. Character 9 is the check digit, character 10 usually encodes the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and the last six form the serial number. Learning this layout makes it easy to spot obviously fake or mistyped VINs.

Generated VINs are for testing and creative work only and must never be used to misrepresent a real vehicle. Press Generate again for a fresh set — it’s free and unlimited.

Frequently asked questions

Are these VINs valid?

They use the correct 17-character format, a real manufacturer prefix and a correctly calculated check digit, but they do not belong to real vehicles.

Why are there no I, O or Q letters?

The VIN standard excludes them because they look too similar to the numbers 1 and 0.

How many VINs can I generate at once?

Up to 100 per click, as often as you need.

Can I look up these VINs?

A decoder may recognize the manufacturer prefix, but there is no actual vehicle history behind a randomly generated VIN.
