How US phone numbers are formatted
US numbers use the North American Numbering Plan: a three-digit area code, a three-digit exchange and a four-digit line number, written as (212) 555-0147 or +1 212-555-0147 internationally.
Each landline uses the real area code of a city such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, so numbers look exactly like those your users will type.
