What is the Random Hash Generator?
Hashes show up everywhere in software: file checksums, cache keys, content-addressed storage, Git commit IDs and database fingerprints. When you are building or testing such systems, you often need values that look exactly like real hashes without hashing anything. That is what this tool provides.
Choose a Length / style option and the generator outputs random hexadecimal strings of the matching size: MD5-style (32 characters), SHA-1-style (40), SHA-256-style (64), SHA-512-style (128) or a short Git hash (7). Results are lowercase by default; switch on Uppercase if your system expects capital letters. You can create up to 100 values per batch, and each one is built from cryptographically secure random bytes via the Web Crypto API.
Important: these strings are random, not hashes of any input. They have the right format and length, but they will not match a checksum computed from a file or text. Use them as placeholders, test fixtures and unique identifiers — not to verify data integrity.
How to use the Random Hash Generator
- Choose a Length / style: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512 or short Git hash.
- Enter How many? values you need, up to 100.
- Turn on Uppercase if you need capital hex letters.
- Press Generate and copy or export the results.
Popular uses
- Developers — fill checksum, etag and fingerprint fields in fixtures.
- QA testers — validate input fields that expect hashes of a specific length.
- Database admins — seed tables with realistic hash columns.
- Designers & writers — show believable commit IDs in mockups and tutorials.
Why use RandNow?
- Instant & unlimited — no sign-up, no daily caps.
- Private by design — results are generated in your browser, not on our servers.
- Export-ready — copy, CSV, JSON and TXT downloads built in.
- Cryptographically random — powered by the Web Crypto API.
Hash lengths at a glance
A hex character represents 4 bits, so the length tells you the hash size: MD5 is 128 bits (32 hex), SHA-1 is 160 bits (40), SHA-256 is 256 bits (64) and SHA-512 is 512 bits (128). Git shows abbreviated commit IDs, often 7 characters, as a short form of the full hash.
Security note
MD5 and SHA-1 are no longer considered secure for signatures or password storage. For passwords, real systems use dedicated algorithms such as bcrypt or Argon2. To hash actual data, use a hashing tool or library. Press Generate again for a fresh set — it’s free and unlimited.
Frequently asked questions
Are these real MD5 or SHA-256 hashes?
No. They are random hexadecimal strings with the same length and format as those hashes, but they are not computed from any input.
Can I hash my own text with this tool?
No. This tool only generates random hash-style values. Use a dedicated hashing tool or library to hash real data.
How long is a SHA-256 hash?
SHA-256 produces 256 bits, written as 64 hexadecimal characters. Choose “SHA-256-style (64 hex)” to match that format.
Can I get uppercase hashes?
Yes. Switch on the Uppercase option to output capital A–F letters instead of lowercase.
