What is the Random Decimal Number Generator?

Whole numbers are not always enough. Prices, measurements, probabilities and scientific data all need fractions of a unit, and this tool generates random decimal (floating-point) numbers for exactly those cases. By default it produces values between 0 and 1 with two decimal places, like 0.40 or 0.91, but you can set any minimum and maximum between minus one billion and one billion.

The Decimal places option controls precision from 1 to 10 digits after the point, and results keep trailing zeros so every number has the same width — handy for tables and spreadsheets. You can create up to 500 numbers in one go and export them as CSV, JSON or TXT.

Randomness comes from the Web Crypto API built into your browser, which is a much stronger source than the basic random functions used by many simple tools. Nothing is stored or sent to a server, and a shareable link keeps your settings so others can reproduce the same configuration.

How to use the Random Decimal Number Generator

  1. Enter the Minimum and Maximum values for your range.
  2. Choose the number of Decimal places, from 1 to 10.
  3. Set How many? up to 500.
  4. Press Generate, then copy or export your decimals.

Popular uses

  • Developers — create test values for price, rating and measurement fields.
  • Teachers — build rounding, ordering and decimal arithmetic worksheets.
  • Data analysts — produce sample data for charts and spreadsheet demos.
  • Game designers — draw random multipliers, drop rates and probabilities.

Why use RandNow?

  • Instant & unlimited — no sign-up, no daily caps.
  • Private by design — results are generated in your browser, not on our servers.
  • Export-ready — copy, CSV, JSON and TXT downloads built in.
  • Cryptographically random — powered by the Web Crypto API.

Tips for choosing precision

Use two decimal places for money and percentages, three or four for measurements and coordinates in small areas, and six or more for scientific or simulation work. Keep in mind that a value shown with fewer places has been rounded, so 0.999 at two places becomes 1.00. If you need numbers between 0 and 1 for probabilities, the default settings are already perfect. For test data, include values at the exact minimum and maximum of your field to check boundary handling.
