What is the Random EAN Barcode Number Generator?

EAN and UPC numbers are the digits printed under retail barcodes worldwide. This generator creates random numbers in three common formats: EAN-13, the 13-digit standard used on most products; UPC-A, the 12-digit format common in the United States and Canada; and EAN-8, a short 8-digit version for small packages.

Every number ends with a correctly calculated check digit. Starting from the rightmost data digit, digits are multiplied alternately by 3 and 1, the products are summed, and the check digit is whatever brings the total up to the next multiple of 10. Because the generated numbers pass this test, barcode fonts, scanner libraries and e-commerce platforms will accept them as well-formed.

Choose the barcode type, create up to 100 numbers per click and export them as CSV, JSON or TXT. The numbers are random and not registered to any company, so they are safe for test data, demos and design mockups. Copy a single number or the whole list with one click.

EAN-13 vs UPC-A vs EAN-8

UPC-A has 12 digits; adding a leading zero turns it into an equivalent EAN-13, which is why most modern scanners read both. EAN-13 is the global default for retail products, while EAN-8 exists for items too small to carry a full-size code, such as gum or cosmetics.

Testing only

Real product barcodes are licensed through GS1 so that each number is unique worldwide. Random numbers may clash with real products, so never print them on goods you sell. Press Generate again for a fresh batch — it’s free and unlimited.
