What is the Drawing Idea Generator?

The Drawing Idea Generator combines three ingredients into a clear, specific prompt: a subject (an owl, a robot, a coffee cup, an old bicycle), a situation or viewpoint (in the rain, under the sea, at night, from a bird’s-eye view) and a style (cartoon, retro 80s, one-line drawing and more). The result reads like a brief from an art director — “Draw a robot under the sea, in a retro 80s style.”

The How many? setting generates from 1 to 20 ideas at a time; the default of three lets you choose the one that excites you most. Specific prompts are easier to start than vague ones, and the style element pushes you to try techniques you might otherwise avoid.

Ideas are generated in your browser and nothing is saved. Copy a prompt, copy the whole list or export it as CSV, JSON or TXT to plan a sketchbook challenge for the week or month.

Make the most of a drawing prompt

Try a timed approach: five minutes for a loose thumbnail, then twenty minutes for a finished piece. Thumbnails help you test composition before committing. If the style is unfamiliar, look at how that style simplifies shapes — cartoons exaggerate proportions, one-line drawings never lift the pen, retro 80s art loves neon gradients and grids.

Keep every result, even the ones you dislike. Reviewing a month of prompts shows how much your skills improve. Drawing the same prompt twice, weeks apart, is a great way to measure progress. Press Generate again for new ideas — it’s free and unlimited.
